Already?

I noticed the Christmas decorations are already out.

And it's only after Veterans' Day. (Didn't they normally go up after Thanksgiving?) Also, a couple of radio stations already threatens to play Christmas music next week.

Already?

Maybe the hope is to get people into the Holiday mood early, so they can start spending sooner? Ya think?

The opposite effect is Holiday-fatigue. Back in the days when I had the world to Christmas-shop for, I used to dread the sights of these decorations. (I hate crowds, especially shopping mall crowds; and traffic jams--typical of the Holiday seasons--drive me nuts.) By the time mid-December rolled around, I was mentally done with the Holidays.

Thank God, I now only have one to shop for. It's really more fun to just wander during lunch time, take time to check out things, playing guessing game with myself ("Yeah, she will like it; Nah, probably not...").

No pressure, no deadline!

Wonder if she'd like this?

(If not, I could probably use it!)

Autumn No More...

Was tidying up my CD drawer, when I found her "Songbird" album...

Rest well, Eva!

Blood Match

Passage to SA2010 World Cup has become bloody for two North African rivals, Egypt and Algeria.

Yesterday, Egypt won the last of the African qualification games, 2-0, against Algeria. The math is complicated, but the Egyptian win forces a play-off game against... Algeria. In Sudan!

  • Prior to yesterday's game, the Algerian delegation's bus was attacked when it arrived in Cairo, with a number of Algerian players bloodied.
  • FIFA in fact had to issue a warning to Egyptian Football Association AND government, in fear of other similar incidents.
  • Frustrated by the Algerian loss, Algerian expats rioted in Marseille, France.
And we thought the US-Mexico rivalry was bad?

Joni Mitchell -- Goodbye Pork Pie Hat

Joni, in a tribute to my man Mingus; with her (then-)man Jaco bringing up the bottom end.

Never get tired of listening to Mingus.

Speaking Of The Devil

WashingtonPost.com:
"Former congressman William J. Jefferson was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Friday for accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, the longest prison term ever handed down to a member of Congress convicted of corruption charges."

Oh, and BTW, this is the guy Representative Joseph Cao replaced.

And people are castigating our man Cao for conscientious voting?
