Abuse Of Power?

I am all for our state and city officials to promote cycling as healthy transportation, but is this the way to do it?

D.C. cyclist-in-chief Fenty, you are doing us run-of-the-mills cyclists no favors, really...

WUSA9 --
"Every time I saw him the behavior was the same: the running of the red lights, the running of stop signs and the riding on restricted roads. This wasn't just a one time event," said Seagraves.

In addition, Seagraves discovered that the Fraternal Order of Police had submitted a FOIA request that showed police officers from the Special Events Branch are routinely detailed for the "mayor's bike ride." Those officers would be doing other police duties but instead they are racking up hundreds of hours escorting the bikers. Seagraves also caught on camera how sometimes, those police spend a couple hours waiting for the mayor before the ride."

Yaaa... Cat Fight On The Pitch!

This is from a game between Brigham Young University (BYU; white jersey) and New Mexico University (NMU; red jersey).

BYU took an early lead. Then everything went down hill from there

OH MY GOD!

That kid needs help, big time! (Or, could it be something in the New Mexico water? Uh wait, isn't that "Area Fifty-something" in New Mexico?)

Biking 150 Miles For A Cause -- In A Dress And Heels

I know how it feels to ride a 100 miles in a day. She does 150. In one day.

My bike is aluminum, with 30 gears. Hers is steel. With exactly one gear.

I ride maybe 3 centuries a year. She does her 150 every year, for the past 26 years.

I am 51. She's--read this and weep--84.

(I'm weeping!)

And the list of wonders goes on.

"I always try to tell people, whatever you can do, keep doing it, keep doing it," she says. "And that's why I do MS. When I start something, I don't want to just quit."

...

"When the last rider comes in, [the MS society] usually has like a police car or fire truck with sirens going off. And usually my grandmother is the last person," says Sim (her grandson) with a laugh. "So the people who know about her, they just sit around waiting for multiple hours after most people have finished. And she'll just ride in, and people are cheering, taking pictures, asking for autographs. It's like being with a celebrity."

"I have the most pressure out of anyone on the tour," Sim adds jokingly. "I know I can't quit, because my grandmother's behind me somewhere!"

Mme, you betcha I ain't gonna quit either! Not with you behind me!

Caught Red-Handed!

[Proof of what I ACTUALLY did at Seagull 2009]

The Emotions Of The Game

What does it look like when a country of 7.5 million people qualifies for the World Cup for the first time in 27 years?

Background:

The US beat Honduras 3-2 (at Honduras) and qualified for the World Cup. That left Honduras on the qualification bubble, pending two events:
  • Honduras needed to beat El Salvador (which it did, 2-1); and
  • The US tied or beat Costa Rica (it tied Costa Rica 2-2).
The video below is the resultant celebration in Honduras after both events above transpired. It's in Spanish; but one does not need to understand the language to feel the emotions.

For me personally, I love seeing underdogs getting a leg up.

I Am Sad To Say...

There's only one guy in the world, who could've "left a little girl in Kingston town" so nicely!
